Dogs have been a big part of my life recently, even more so than just being a little obsessed with my own dog. Until recently Matt and I had been fostering for a local rescue. Our most recent was a shepherd-husky mix named Osmo who had come to us from a native reserve up north. In August, he managed to escape when the leash we had him on snapped. He’d run away before, but this time we weren’t able to find him again… at least not for 43 days. Thanks to a local rescue who really went above and beyond to help us bring him home, he was picked up this past weekend and is now back safe and sound at the rescue who had him originally while he gets his health back. We got the message in the middle of the night and couldn’t get back to sleep right away for how stunned we were that this dog was found. I hate to say it, but I had definitely given up hope.
So three cheers for the return of Osmo! He wont be coming back to live with us, but I am so thrilled he’s safe.
In other dog news, since somehow this seems like what I’m talking about today, I decided to take up dog-sitting on the side until I have the time to get back into the longer commitments involved in fostering, and I am having so much fun! We have a couple of dogs that some times come and hang out with us during the work day while their parents cant be home, and others who stay with us for a week or weekend while their families are on vacation. It’s keeping me busy but has been way too much fun lately. A little messy, and I’m getting a lot more walks, but Piper has been enjoying the extra company and having dogs being dropped off and picked up seems to make sure I wake up at normal human hours, so it’s a win across the board.
